Anti-Bullying

The Littlehampton Academy is committed to providing a caring, friendly and safe environment for all of its students so they can learn in a relaxed and secure atmosphere. Bullying or harassment of any kind is unacceptable. If bullying does occur, all students should be able to report it in the knowledge that incidents will be dealt with promptly and effectively. This is a listening school. This means that anyone who reports that bullying is happening to themselves or anyone else, will be listened to and action will be taken. There is zero tolerance of bullying in the Academy and reported cases are dealt with swiftly and effectively.

Definition
Bullying is any deliberate behaviour which causes another person to feel hurt, threatened or frightened.  It can take many forms including physical contact, verbal abuse, unacceptable demands, intimidation or cyber bullying.

Characteristics of Bullying

1.  It is often planned, but it can be spontaneous

2.  It is intentional

3.  A victim is identified and then pursued

4.  There is a desire to get satisfaction through intimidation

5.  Pressure is exerted to demonstrate power

It is important to recognise that there can be times when students may make others feel bullied through thoughtless or insensitive behaviour.  As an Academy, we recognise that this type of situation should also be dealt with in a robust way and the victim supported throughout.

In summary, at The Littlehampton Academy,

we do not tolerate bullying of any kind.
