Bursary Funding

The 16 to 19 Bursary Fund is money the government has given to Academies to pass on to provide financial help to students so that they can stay in education. There are two types of 16 to 19 bursaries:

• A vulnerable bursary of up to £1,200 a year for young people in one of the defined vulnerable groups
• Discretionary bursaries that institutions award to meet individual needs. For example, train or bus travel, books and equipment including stationery, IT including additional support for a laptop. 

Tuition Funding

The 16 to 19 tuition fund was first provided for the 2020 to 2021 academic year and is now being extended for a further two years into the 2023 to 2024 academic year. The fund provides additional funding for schools, colleges and other 16 to 19 providers to help with the disruption to learning caused by coronavirus (COVID-19)
