Year 6 into 7 Transition

We continue to speak with your teachers to find out more about how we can provide the best support to ensure that all students settle will into life as TLA students. On this page you will find further information about life as a TLA student and answers to some of the questions that new students often ask.

If you do have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact our transition team via transition@tla.woodard.co.uk and we will be happy to help.

Getting to Know You

Throughout the summer term our transition team will be meeting with all our feeder primary schools to find out as much as we can about our students and their learning needs, ensuring that the transition from primary to secondary education will be a smooth and enjoyable experience for all. We will speak to primary class teachers, SEN and safeguarding colleagues to try to ensure that any issues that have affected learning in primary schools are addressed to allow students to make a seamless transition to TLA.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please see below a selection of frequently asked questions from Y6 students. If you have any other questions, please let us know!

Can I choose my tutor group?

You will spend the next five years with the same tutor group and so it is vital that we get the group dynamics right. To do this we speak to your primary schools to find out who you work well with, as well as looking at a range of other data including behaviours for learning and attendance.

It is important that you feel comfortable within your tutor group and so we do our best to ensure that everyone is with someone that they know and work well with, however we respectfully ask that parents/carers do not make requests or recommendations for groupings.

Where can I go at break and lunchtime?

Year 7 students have their own space at the front of the Academy with picnic benches and grass to play sports and games. Students in other year groups are not allowed to use this space. Year 7 students are of course very welcome to use all of the space around the Academy if they wish.

Are there any clubs that I can join?

We have a large number of co-curricular clubs and teams that you can join. These change every term. Everyone is welcome to join and you will find out more in the first few weeks of term. There is no charge for any of these clubs.

Transition Programme

We have an excellent transition programme that will run throughout the final half term of year 6. It starts with a launch event to parents followed by a programme of weekly events which allow students to attend TLA after school and experience what it is like at secondary school.  More information will be emailed to parents/carers nearer the time.

Handbook

Towards the end of the summer term, all families will receive a handbook with detailed information on everything you will need to know to help families get prepared for the start of the new academic year.
