Year 6 into 7 Transition

We are delighted to be welcoming our new students in September and we look forward to visiting you all in your primary schools over the Summer term. We continue to speak with your teachers to find out more about how we can provide the best support to ensure that all students settle will into life as TLA students. On this page you will find further information about life as a TLA student and answers to some of the questions that new students often ask.

If you do have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact our transition team via transition@tla.woodard.co.uk and we will be happy to help.

Getting to Know You

Ensuring that our students are known and nurtured is very much a part of the fabric of TLA.

Throughout the summer term we will be meeting with our feeder primary schools to find out as much as we can about our students and their learning needs, ensuring that the transition from primary to secondary education will be a smooth and enjoyable experience for all.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please see below a selection of frequently asked questions from Y6 students. If you have any other questions, please let us know!

What Chapter will I be placed in?

Students are assigned to a Chapter randomly unless they have a sibling already at TLA. We always try to keep siblings in the same Chapter.

Can I choose my tutor group?

You will spend the next five years with the same tutor group and so it is vital that we get the group dynamics right. To do this we speak to your primary schools to find out who you work well with, as well as looking at a range of other data including behaviours for learning and attendance.

It is important that you feel comfortable within your tutor group and so we do our best to ensure that everyone is with someone that they know and work well with, however we respectfully ask that parents/carers do not make requests or recommendations for groupings.

Where can I go at break and lunchtime?

Year 7 students have their own space at the front of the Academy with picnic benches and grass to play sports and games Students in other year groups are not allowed to use this space. Year 7 students are of course very welcome to use all of the space around the Academy if they wish.

What modern foreign language will I study?

Students will be invited via an online survey to choose from either French or Spanish, they will study this throughout years 7-9.

Are there any clubs that I can join?

We have a large number of co-curricular clubs and teams that you can join. These change every year and can also depend on the season. Everyone is welcome to join and you will find out more in the first few weeks of term.

Transition Days

Year 6 students will be invited to visit TLA for our Transition Days. This is a two day event that is scheduled to take place on Wednesday 6 and Thursday 7 July. We ask the students wear their uniforms from their primary schools. Further information will be issued shortly.
