The Scott Centre

All students must have an Education and Health Care Plan for Autism Spectrum Condition or Semantic Pragmatic Disorder in order to have a named place at The Scott Centre. Spaces in the centre are allocated by WSCC and are applied for via your SEND caseworker at SENAT. 

The centre enables students to receive additional support whilst attending mainstream classes with their peers. Inclusion into the mainstream is a gradual process, but students are expected to spend 80% of their time integrated into mainstream classes. 

The centre offers a supportive environment providing a range of interventions designed to address the individual needs of students. It is overseen by a Lead Teacher and supported by a team of LSAs who play an important role in helping students to access learning and feel supported throughout the school day. They provide encouragement, guidance and practical support both in lessons and during unstructured times. Their support in lessons will include helping students to understand instructions, breaking tasks down into manageable steps, supporting organisation, encouraging engagement in class activities and helping students to stay focused during independent tasks. The team also supports the students with interventions in social communication, emotional regulation, social skills, life skills, PE and outdoor learning. There are also supported homework sessions and additional interventions for those that need extra support in Maths and English. 

Above all, our team aims to promote independence in our students, while ensuring that everyone feels safe, understood and able to achieve their full potential within school.
