Our Curriculum
Our mission:
Inspire Growth; Reap Success is woven into our daily practice to ensure that ‘We believe in potential, not limits’
Our vision:
Our vision is to be an academy that secures excellent outcomes and provides life-enhancing experiences for all students. We use the Woodard vision as our guiding principle in our curriculum design and ensure that it has clarity and purpose.
Opening minds, raising expectations and transforming lives
Our Values:
Our curriculum is inclusive of our TLA Values, our core beliefs and standards that sets our culture and daily practice.
Inclusive - we embrace every student ensuring they feel valued and have a sense of belonging.
Supportive - we foster a caring environment where every student grows academically, socially and emotionally.
Ambitious - we inspire each individual to aim high, achieve their full potential, and contribute positively to society.
Evolving - we continuously learn, adapt, and innovate to provide an outstanding education for our students.
Curriculum intent
Our intent is to deliver a curriculum that is challenging and ambitious for all pupils and built upon our core values and purpose. We aim for attainment for all, including students who have an SEND or may experience educational disadvantage.
Our curriculum is high challenge and low threat allowing pupils to develop knowledge and skills. Staff will share language and knowledge regarding the curriculum. The curriculum:
-
Opens minds by exposing students to a wide range of knowledge, ideas, and experiences.
-
Raise expectations by setting ambitious goals and encourage a love of learning.
-
Transforms lives by preparing students for their next step, helping them become confident, responsible citizens.
Our Curriculum:
-
Has a clear, ambitious vision for what we want students to know and be able to do – opening minds, raising expectations, and transforming lives.
-
Is carefully planned and sequenced towards cumulatively sufficient knowledge and skills for future learning and employment.
-
Provides opportunities for students to experience a broad, rich curriculum that develops cultural capital and inspires curiosity.
-
Sets high expectations for all learners, including SEND or disadvantaged students.
-
Prepares students for life beyond school – academically, socially, and personally.
The national curriculum is extended and contextualised in our academy to meet the specific needs of our community.
Curriculum Implementation
We achieve our Intent by:
-
Carefully designing and sequencing the curriculum so that knowledge builds over time and key concepts are revisited to strengthen understanding.
-
Using evidence-informed teaching approaches that support students to know more and remember more.
-
Providing regular opportunities to check for understanding and address misconceptions, so learning is secure.
-
Embedding our values – inclusive, supportive, ambitious, evolving – in every lesson and every interaction with students.
-
Offering enrichment, trips, clubs, and experiences that build confidence and extend learning beyond the classroom.
-
Providing targeted support and scaffolding to ensure every child can access and succeed in the curriculum.
Curriculum Impact
We measure the success of our curriculum by:
-
Attainment for all, including students who may encounter barriers to learning.
-
Students knowing more, remembering more, and being able to do more.
-
Strong academic outcomes across all subjects and year groups.
-
High levels of engagement, attendance, and participation in lessons as well as in enrichment opportunities.
