Self Isolation Following a Positive Covid Test
With the changes in rules we thought it would be useful to lay out what actions should be taken at what time when someone has a positive Covid test.

It is currently the guidance that any Covid test, PCR or LFD, should be regarded as conclusive evidence. This means that if a LFD test returns a positive result, the individual should self isolate immediately, and no confirmatory PCR test is required. Close contacts of the person with the positive test do not need to isolate but should carry out daily LFD tests, while the individual is isolating themselves.

The guidance on when someone can leave isolation is also changing from Monday 17 January such that an individual can leave self isolation after two negative LFD tests on successive days, beginning with a test on the 5th day of isolation.

The table below shows examples of how this can work. To leave isolation you should take daily LFD tests, beginning on day 5 and, when there are two consecutive days of negative results, you can leave isolation immediately after the second negative test. However, the two tests MUST be on consecutive days. The default self-isolation period continues to be 10 days, and you may only leave self-isolation early if you have taken 2 rapid lateral flow tests and do not have a temperature, in line with guidance.

Face coverings
Those who leave self-isolation on or after day 6 are strongly advised to wear face coverings and limit close contact with other people in crowded or poorly ventilated spaces, work from home if they can do so and minimise contact with anyone who is at higher risk of severe illness if infected with COVID-19.

Since early January, TLA students have been required to wear facemasks in indoor communal areas and in classrooms.

Please continue to ensure that your child attends school with a face covering unless they are medically exempt.  Last half term we issued more than 6000 face coverings to students who did not have one and as I am sure you can appreciate this is a significant drain on our limited resources.
