Y10 Work Experience Week - Mon 21 to Friday 25 March
Year 10 are going out on work experience this week and we want to wish all our students the best of luck with this. We want to thank those parents and carers who found placements for their child and also for our local employers who have put themselves out for our young people. We really do appreciate this and so do our students.

Work experience is a great opportunity for young people to develop skills, grow in confidence and to have some fun. Staff will be going out on visits to see them in their placements and phone calls will be made to employers to see how they are getting on. We look forward to this.

If your child is ill whilst on a placement, please ensure you contact both the school and the placement so that we know about non-attendance.

Students who are staying in school will follow their normal timetable, although lessons will have a careers theme; on Tuesday 22 March there will be a careers workshop from Time 2 Act, to explore careers and future pathways.

Bereavement - Mr Barnes

I have written to parents under separate cover today with some sad news. I regret to inform you that one of our colleagues, Mr Graham Barnes, passed away unexpectedly over the weekend.

I have spoken to Mr Barnes’ colleagues and immediate teaching groups and, as you can imagine, it has come as something of a shock to them. Students are being offered support at the school but please do not hesitate to contact me directly if you have any worries or concerns about your son or daughter in response to this news.

We are still processing this event as a community and I will be in touch again when I have further information.  Our thoughts and condolences go out to Mr Barnes' wife, Pat, and the rest of his family.

Year 11 & Sixth Form Higher Education, Apprenticeship and Study Skills Evening - Wednesday 6 April
As part of our ongoing commitment to raising awareness about future pathways for our students, we are combining an information evening on Higher Education and Apprenticeships, with a training session from Elevate Education.  The evening will take place on Wednesday 6 April 2022 6.00-8.00pm in the Library.

The evening is an opportunity for parents/carers and students to hear from Mr Sealby, Assistant Principal and Director of KS5, about life in the Sixth Form.  There will also be a presentation from the University of Chichester about degree apprenticeships.

Following a short break, Elevate Education will run a training session to help empower parents/carers and students to reinforce study skills at home. Their senior presenter will share Elevate’s key research and answer questions so parents can help their child navigate their final years of school. A separate letter will go home shortly.

Ukraine Appeal
Following the announcement in Tuesday’s assembly, a letter was emailed home to all families. We are all aware of the tragedy unfolding in Ukraine and many of us have asked what we can do to help. We have been contacted by a company we have worked with for many years called Astra Recycling. Historically, they take unwanted clothing and recycle it in eastern Poland, giving part of the money raised to charity. The business owner is Ukrainian and their response to the crisis is to use their connections and transport networks to take donations directly to the organisations working on the border in Poland and on into Ukraine.

We would like to support them via our community by collecting donations of the following items:

Good quality: Sleeping bags, torches, backpacks, nappies, baby formula, camouflaged clothing and blankets.

Urgently needed items: Sanitary products, first aid products, tinned food and toiletries.

Please only bring in the items listed above. They have also requested NO duvets.

Please drop off your donations bagged up and contents clearly labelled to the main reception of the academy and place them in the cages on Monday 21 and Tuesday 22 March up until midday. We cannot accept any donations after this date. Astra recycling will be coming to collect during the afternoon of Tuesday 22 March. Thank you so much for helping to support this worthy cause.
