Academy Awards Evening - Tuesday 12 July
Letters will be posted shortly, inviting nominated students and their families to this special evening. Students will be rewarded for their outstanding efforts and achievement as well as contributions made to The Littlehampton Academy.  Doors open at 6:30pm and light refreshments will be served. The awards evening will start promptly at 7pm. I look forward to a very special evening of celebration.

Hot Chocolate is Back!

After being put aside due to covid, we are re-introducing Hot Chocolate Fridays! This is when I get to meet a group of students who have done particularly well this week.  Colleagues nominate students for a range of reasons including kindness, leadership. academic and sporting achievements - anything which makes them stand out as great members of our community.  This week, these fine young people were commended for: upholding our REAP values; working hard & encouraging others to do the same; going above and beyond on every task; commendable maturity and effort. Well done you superstars! Commendation letters are on their way home.

National Writing Competitions
Throughout the year students at TLA have been entering National Writing Competitions, promoted and presented in the English Faculty and run by 'Young Writers'.  Competitions so far include a creative writing contest and two poetry competitions, with all three producing winners selected for publishing.  Twelve students have already had their work published in a book of poems produced by 'Young Writers' and three more await their writing to be published in a book of short stories being printed this summer.  We are exceptionally proud of their efforts and applaud their success.

Currently, a new creative writing competition, focusing on ' a new point of view'  is open to all budding writers, closing at the end of term.

Additionally, we took part in a poetry competition organised by The Sussex Cancer Fund, where students had to submit a poem about the county of Sussex. Our winning student, Chae Goff, wrote an inventive poem titled 'I am Sussex' which will be published this summer and included in a book of poems.

Well done to all the students who have taken part and many congratulations to all the winners.

Punctuality Raffle
This week’s punctuality raffle took place on Thursday. Congratulations to Mikey Quinn 7EKU, James Tequanna 8CRU, Ksenija Overko  9SBI, and Jessica Bushaway 10SBA who all won a £5 amazon voucher. The next raffle will take on Friday 24 June and all students that arrive on time to all of their lessons will be entered.

Attendance Update
Attendance across the academy remains well above the national average but we’re not happy with that! I’d like to challenge all students to persevere, and finish the year strong by attending every single one of the 23 school days remaining. I am sure they will rise to the challenge!

LASP Primary School Sports Events
As we approach the end of another action packed year of LASP primary sports events I would like to recognise the amazing work of our TLA Sport Leaders. Throughout the academic year we have hosted 28 sporting events here at the academy, covering everything from Football and Rugby to Gymnastics and Golf. These events would not be able to happen without the commitment and dedication of our fantastic Sports Leaders, some of whom have volunteered for over 40 hours. So far this year we have welcomed nearly 2000 primary aged children from our locality to these LASP events and our Sports Leaders have supported and encouraged them to ensure they have had a positive and enjoyable experience at each event, we are very proud of them indeed.  Well done and thank you, also, to Mr Jones for leading them.

Summer Uniform
As mentioned in my email yesterday, TLA has switched to summer uniform with effect from Thursday 16 June. In order for this to work - and remain in place - it is important that students understand what this means:

- Blazers and ties now become optional.  We recommend students continue to bring blazers to school even if they don’t wear them at all times.

- Blazers must not be replaced by sweaters, hoodies or coats.

- Shirts must remain tucked in.

This will allows us to retain the right balance between keeping students comfortable and remaining as smart as possible.  No other changes to the uniform have been made.  We know that TLA students can be trusted to stick to this arrangement: assuming that everyone keeps to these rules, the summer uniform will remain in place until the end of term.  Full uniform will resume on the first day of term in September.

On a connected point, please ensure that your child has a refillable water bottle with them every day so that they can remain hydrated.
