Physical Education

Our aim is to inspire lifelong participation in sport and active living. We strive to ignite a passion for competitive sport while nurturing a love for health and physical activity. Through engaging lessons and a supportive environment, students develop positive attitudes toward physical activity and gain a strong understanding of its importance for their physical, mental, and emotional well-being—both now and into the future.

The Physical Education Team aim to:

  • Provide opportunities through sport and physical activity to build character, resilience and embed values such as teamwork, fairness and respect.
  • Empower students with skills in communication and leadership boosting their confidence to become more employable and help lead others.
  • Equip students with the skills, knowledge and physical ability to access a broad range of Sports and enhance their performance.
  • Gain memorable experiences from that inspire lifelong participation, igniting a passion for sport and a love of healthy active living.
  • Find enjoyment through a rich and varied programme of Sports and physical activities that have relevance, meaning and purpose.

KS3

In KS3 students in year 7 pupils will develop a strong understanding of ingredients, healthy eating, and food provenance. They will acquire essential cooking and food preparation skills, alongside knowledge of hygiene, safety, and consumer choices. Through practical and creative tasks, pupils will build the confidence and technical expertise to prepare a variety of high-quality dishes. They will also learn to make informed food choices and evaluate their own work and that of others critically and thoughtfully.

In year 8 pupils develop and apply a broad range of food preparation skills, progressing in complexity and precision. It emphasizes cooking a variety of dishes safely and hygienically while deepening pupils’ understanding of nutrition, food provenance, and the wider influences on food choices, availability, and waste. Through this scheme, pupils will enhance their technical, creative, and practical abilities, gaining confidence in everyday food tasks. They will also critically evaluate their own work and that of others, building a strong foundation in food knowledge, skills, and responsible decision-making.

In year 9 pupils deepen their knowledge and skills in food preparation, nutrition, and food provenance. Students develop increasingly complex and accurate food techniques, whilst embedding safe and hygienic practices. Pupils will also explore consumer issues, food functions, and emerging food trends.

KS4

In KS4 students the core PE curriculum is designed to promote lifelong participation and further awareness of leading a healthy, active lifestyle and making positive life choices. Students are given a choice of activities in each lesson to promote high levels of activity levels in lessons. Students are equipped with the knowledge  to take ownership of their own health and fitness and personal development. Some students will choose to study our level 2 qualification in Community Sports Leadership. Students also have the option to study an additional level 2 course with either GCSE PE or BTEC Tech award in Sport available.

KS5

In KS5 students have the opportunity to study the level 3 Pearson BTEC National Extended Certificate in Sport.
