Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB)
At The Littlehampton Academy, we are committed to creating a community where every student, member of staff, parent and visitor feels valued, respected and a true sense of belonging. We believe that diversity enriches our school and that equity, inclusion and belonging are essential to ensuring that everyone can thrive, achieve their potential and be their authentic selves.
We celebrate the rich diversity of our school community, including differences in race, ethnicity, culture, religion, belief, disability, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic background, family structure and lived experience. We recognise that equality means providing everyone with the opportunities and support they need to succeed, and we are committed to identifying and removing barriers that may prevent this.
Our curriculum, policies and practices are designed to foster understanding, challenge discrimination and promote respect for all. We actively encourage our students to become compassionate, informed and courageous citizens who contribute positively to society and stand against prejudice in all its forms.
As part of our commitment to racial equity and inclusion, we proudly support the Halo Code, ensuring that no member of our community experiences discrimination or disadvantage because of their natural hair, cultural hairstyles or protective hairstyles associated with their racial, ethnic or cultural identity.
We are also working towards achieving the Race Charter Mark, reflecting our ongoing commitment to becoming an actively anti-racist school. Through this work, we seek to embed racial equity across all aspects of school life, challenge systemic barriers and ensure that every member of our community feels seen, heard and valued.
In addition, we are working towards the Rainbow Flag Award, demonstrating our commitment to creating a safe, inclusive and supportive environment for all LGBTQ+ students, staff and families. We believe that everyone deserves to feel accepted and respected, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
Creating a truly inclusive school is an ongoing journey. We listen to the voices of our students, staff, families and wider community, recognising that meaningful change requires reflection, learning and action. Together, we are building a school where diversity is celebrated, equity is embedded, inclusion is lived and everyone experiences a genuine sense of belonging.
